Dukedom of Vokkar
One of the numerous small states lying to the east of the Windy Sea. The Dukedom of Vokkar has been held by the Korlinn family for four generations. The current Duke, Elston Korlinn has as heirs two adult daughters Katerina and Varina. Both women are warriors of some repute. Elston’s brother Arlin is suspected of plotting to displace his nieces and seize the dukedom.
The interior of Vokkar consists of a dozen large villages on the estates of the noble families. Most of these estates are heavily involved in wine, cheese and fruit production. The noble families have a hold over most of the good farmland and the remaining freeholders are increasingly losing control of their land to the noble families.
Structure
The Archduchy is ruled by feudal lords. The archduke holds the lands immediately around the capital and is by far the most powerful of the nobles. Below the Archduke are eight Barons and Baronesses holding large estates where most of the inhabitants are tied to the lands. The Barons typically meet once a years for several week in a Parliament presided over by the Archduke. The free town of Turres is also represented by in the Parliament. Turres is governed by a council of guild masters under a charter granted by the Archduke. The courts are run by the local Baron, but their is a right to appeal capital cases to the Archduke. The Dukes Court handles both appeals from the lower courts and decides disputed between nobles.
