Sarn Castle
The baronial seat of the Mellis Clan. This is a hexagonal fortress located on a rocky island in the center of a river. It is connected to both the north and south banks of the river by stone bridges with the final approach to the castle over drawbridges. The castle is a notable building with six square towers with peaked roofs occupying each corner and two strongly built gatehouses at the bridges. At the center of the fortress is a five story great hall featuring storerooms and workshops on the first two levels, barracks on the third level and the Mellis family’s apartments on the upper two levels. Stables and additional storage buildings line the inside of the castle walls. The castle is white washed and has red tile roofs atop its buildings.
