The Hand of the Goddess

The title of Hand of the Goddess has been used as the honorific for the Goddess Salya's highest ranking priestess-assassin since the foundation of the Sisterhood (Order) of Salya. This woman serves as the leader of the cult in both religious and organizational matters weilding absolute power within the cult.. She is one of only a handful of priestess assassins who has a complete knowledge of the cult's calandestine cells and affairs.

Qualifications

The holder of this title must be devout in fulfilling her duty to the Goddess, an expert assassin, and acclaimed by the Midnight Council.

Requirements

The title can be held by a female human, corgerian, dark corgerian, or Danite. Women of all of these races have held the title at one time or another.

Appointment

The appointment is made by the Midnight Council, but must be affirmed by the Goddess Salya herself through the ritual of blood.

Duties

As high priestess, the Hand of the Goddess has a broad and complex set of duties which she fulfills herself or delegates to the members of the Midnight Council. Tasks include appointing and promoting priestesses, directing the training of cult members as assassins, managing the sect's property and finances. She also directs policy about who the cult will accept commissions from and which people or organizations are acceptable targets for the cult's activities.

Benefits

The hand may use any of the cult's property, wealth, or members as she sees fit. She will have a lifestyle of luxury and pleasure at the cult's expense.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The hand has a variety of magical weapons and devices. She will have access to the cult's great collection of poisons, weapons, disguises and insidious devices.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Death is the usual reason a Hand of the Goddess is replaced. However if she displeases the Goddess sufficiently, the Goddess may order her removed and sacrafice. The latter case the Goddess will manifest herself and drain her former high prestess of blood. Those who die well fighting for the Sisterhood will join the ranks of the Ascended Daughters, the spirit companions that dwell with the Goddess in her home dimension.
