Vanyard’s Horse

An experienced horse troop organized and commanded by a former Alyite officer. The company has roughly 250 members equipped as medium horse. They wear mail coats and carry long teardrop shields. Their primary weapons are spears, long swords, battle axes and maces. The troop includes three magic users.

The troop tries to maintain its numbers at around 250 with most troops being medium cavalry, but a few are spell-casters.

Weaponry

The troopers generally wears long mail coats, carry long teardrop shaved shields and wear helmets with nose guards, cheek guards and flexible plates protecting the back of the neck. A few troopers have obtained better armor. The troops favored weapons is a long spear with swords, maces and battle axes. The small ten member scouting detachment carries short bows in place of lances.

Structure

Kelta Vanyard has been the Commander of the Formation since she founded it. The unit is sub divided in a scouting detachment with 10 troopers and four squadrons of roughly 60 members. Each squadron includes a Captain, a Lieutenant and four sergeants. The units handful of spell-casters are shifted around as needed.

Tactics

Its officers will always look opportunities to attack from the rear or flanks and will try to avoid frontal clashes with heavy cavalry or well-organized heavy infantry. The Company prides itself in its ability to quickly move from march to battle formation and two reform after a charge. The company uses a complex system of trumpet signals based on Alyite methods to direct the troops during battle. Each squadron has a trumpeter.

Training

The company practices in fighting in tightly organized mounted formations.
