Volmar’s Company
A company of crossbow armed mercenaries with about 150 members. The company is roughly split between heavy and light crossbow men. They typically wear scale mail with broad swords and hand axes being the favored hand-to-hand weapons.
Composition
Manpower
The company usually breaks up into five 30 member subunits, two with heavy crossbows and three with light crossbows.
Weaponry
Each member carries a heavy or light crossbow. Each member wears scale mail and carries a long sword or a hand ax as a personal weapon. they wear iron helmets with nose guards and a chainmail skirt to protect the neck.
Vehicles
Typically the company will have a cart filled with extra bolts assigned to each detachment. In terrain tha does not allows for wheeled vehicles the company will use pack mules in place of carts.
Structure
The copmany is commanded by an elected captain with a lieutenant leading each detachment. Each lieutenant will be assisted by two sergeants.
Tactics
To company avoids hand to hand combat and is well trained at using volley fire. They particularly excel at method where a detachment forms three lines with each line advancing through the previous line and firing or falling back after firing. this approach allows the unit to maintain a steady advance or retreat well firing. If given the opportunity the company will cut large numbers of sharpened stacks to fortify its field positions with.

The unit concentrates its training on volley fire and moving in formation.
