Ser Darien Runelite is a name many know in the upper echelons of Bastion's Imperial District. The sworn knight of Lady Corbahn, He is as loyal as he is serious, Rarely joking or even smiling, He is a stern reminder that loyal service can come from anyone, Squire or even peasant. It is rumoured that he and Lady Corbahn are in an illicit relationship, Much of the rumour comes from the simple fact that though he rarely expresses joy, When he is around his lady, a smile is never far from his face.

Personal history

Ser Darien Runelite has held the burden of living up to his Aunt Lirianne's reputation since he was a young child. He spent his youth training as a squire with the knight Ser Vorkath, Sworn Sword of House Corbahn of the noble houses of Bastion's War District. He rose to promenance after besting his former master Ser Vorkath in single combat while still holding the rank of squire, His former master Ser Vorkath had betrayed House Corbahn and attempted to work with the Court of Black Scales to assassinate the Golden Dragon Qyzorzatl in the year 1316 2E, This effort was stopped by the royal legion of Ruby Feathers, however Ser Vorkath was brought to justice by young Darien Runelite. Darien was rewarded in his efforts by being granted the title of knight under House Corbahn and being assigned to safeguard the heiress apparant for the estate. Rumours abound that over the years Ser Runelite and Lady Merida Corbahn had entered into a forbidden relationship, yet these rumours were never confirmed before the tragic sickness of Lady Corbahn from a wasting disease named Lylnos' Whisper, rumoured to come from the broken land of Corinthia. Ser Runelite was devastated at his Lady's sickness and requested he be allowed to search for a cure for the sickness. Lord Corbahn granted his request out of desperation for his daughters safety and began the preperations to create an expedition to the recently rediscovered land of Corinthia. Darien was named one of the heads of the expedition in hopes he can guide adventurers to potentially find the cure for the Corinthian sickness.

Darien Runelite is a cisgendered male, He uses the He/Him pronouns. He has not particularly considered that Trans people exist but if he met a Trans person he would have no kind of issue with it.

While his sexuality is unknown, It is heavily assumed that he must be at least heterosexual due to his seeming smittenness with Lady Corbahn.

Education

He was given a formal education, Able to read and write well enough to be of service to a noble family. He was also expertly tutored in knightly ways, becoming an expert of the sword at the young age of 14. He was given an excellent scientific and mathematical education from expert tutors but he appears to not care for such teachings. He was also taught to paint, Which he used to create gifts for his Mistress.

Employment

He was recruited by Ser Vorkath when he was 11 years old, And taught the responsibilities of a Squire. When he was 19 he defeated his master in a duel during the Black Court Rebellion. After saving the Corbahn house from the Court of Black Scales he was anointed the house knight for the esteemed family. Becoming the sworn blade of Lady Merida Elfrieze Corbahn, To whom he served faithfully until she took ill with a mysterious disease named Lylnos' Whisper. He has since been sent to Corinthia as one of the head administrators of the expedition to find a cure.

Accomplishments & Achievements

During the Black Court rebellion he worked alongside the royal legion of Ruby Feathers to bring Ser Vorkath and the cult down. He succeeded by besting the traitor knight despite being a mere squire. As a result he was elevated to a sworn knight of the Corbahn house.

Failures & Embarrassments

He deems it his fault that his lady became sickened, He views the expedition as his responsibility and his penance.

Mental Trauma

He suffers from ptsd after having to slay the man he had come to think of as a father. He is yet to recieve any treatment for this as he has not mentioned any adverse affects to anyone else thus far.

Intellectual Characteristics

He has a tendency to speak rather bluntly and often without considering how the other party may feel. However when it comes to death and loss of comrades, He is unusually sympathetic for a warrior.

Morality & Philosophy

Duty above all is the general morality he believes in, for he believes that the law must be upheld except in the most extreme circumstances. He places his loyalty to Lady Corbahn above any other relationship, Including his familial relationships to Lirianne Runelite. However he does believe that one of the duties of the strong is to protect the weak and so he is opposed to the worship of Origan within the Imperial District.

He refuses to use guns of any kind, Despite his aunt's fame with them. The reason for this is unknown.
