Dorist Ironstone

Commander Dorist Ironstone

"Home sweet home, and I never have to go up there again."
"I'm sorry, we have another expedition already arranged."
"ConLangSwearWordsLater"
— Ironstone, upon returning to the Undermountains
The Commander of the First Expedition to the Sunlit Lands for the Under Cities, and despite the almost disaster of the first expedition he was given command of several more.

Physical Description

As Ironstone is a figure of ancient history, no one living could determine if the several portrayals of him were accurate as several archive halls of The Adrakian Empire had made copies of copies over the centuries.

General Physical Condition

According to records, Ironstone was about average in appearance to his peers, but had a higher tolerance to colder weather due to his background in Mining and scouting the Deep Roads.

Identifying Characteristics

The Ironstone Family and their relations is generally easily identified by having a prominent nose, though in a crowd, most would look for someone dressed for the military, but with the discomfort of a Farmer looking for the quickest route to their destination.

Facial Features

According to his journal entries, when on the Sunlit Lands, Ironstone grew out a beard in an effort to keep warm, but generally, he was clean shaven as most Dwarves would be.

The journal entries of others describe him as generally being in a tense mood, and only relaxing once back in the farming and mining caverns underground. Several people have describe him as possessing a hard glare challenging those under his command and around him to live up to and exceed his expectations.

Body Features

Jaron thought he was at the advantage, and rest his elbows on the table, his claws extended. The "dwarves" diplomat's leader took on the challenge by shedding the layers of garmets he was dressed in. That fine silk we were admiring revealed arms of muscles more akin to twisted winding metal. Mirroring Jaron's posture af a moment's pause, the leader grasp Jaron's hand. Never have I laughed as hard as watching Jaron grunt and groan while trying to shift the arm of Commander Ironstone.

At least five minutes had to have been spent, and then Ironstone looked up and asked "I'm ready for the strength test when you are, unless this is not how I was supposed to do this?" And then I find out he grew up mining. Jaron didn't have a chance against someone who could break stone and haul it around.

Another hand adds here

To the Ironstone Family,

My father left this journal to your family in the hopes it may serve as a record of our people's first contact for your people.

- Excerpt from the journals of a diplomat at the First Contact

Physical Quirks

I'm told my family can have a pretty strong glare, and it goes back for generations. I like to think it came from Commander Ironstone.
— Ussar Ironstone, descendent serving at the Undermountains Gates

Special Abilities

From records, Ironstone had a skill with command and diplomacy many did not expect from a miner and deep roads scouting commander. His reports credit this skills to experience in the mines or the deep roads, both environments where improvisation would be required to adapt to the situation at hand.

Mental Characteristics

Intellectual Characteristics

From his own reports and journals, Ironstone had little to no tolerance for people expecting more than a person was capable of delivering. However, he also had the same for people delivering less than they were capable of. His own descendents pass along stories of great deeds, and his ability to communicate.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Ironstone is credited with the success of his expeditions to the Sunlit Lands and the diplomatic development of Adrakian-Undermountains relations.   To some, he is also the one who introduced the Undermountains to Sunlit Lands influence, and his family has been tied to the gates ever since.

Failures & Embarrassments

In the first expedition, his chefs cooked a feast, mirroring how the diplomats had produced a feast for them, except the Turves had unknowingly used ingredients that would kill the diplomats. Fortunately, the diplomats had healers on hand, and after demonstrating how the feast was completely edible to turves and which ingredients were used, relations were repaired.

I love seeing a detailed, interesting and funny dwarf. Funny who knew dwarves have a sense of humor. What a very detailed character, thank you.

I'm glad you found the article to be very detailed and found the humor. I like to mentally imagine that Dorist's humor would be like Tommy Lee Jones - that deadpan dry manner that is almost like he didn't realize he was being funny.   Except in the case of the arm wrestling match, Dorist honestly didn't realize he was being funny or even insulting the other guy by the comment and thought the guy was still preparing for the challenge.   As for knowing dwarves have a sense of humor - a lot may go over their heads (ha ha), but I like to think every species has their senses of humor. Even/especially the snooty elves. =P

A nice article, only slightly marred by formatting. Those large whitespaces are somewhat disruptive to the flow.

Yeah, I removed a lot of other rwhite space locations, but some I was like "need to keep my formatting, I will need to remember these for later"
