A dial is a semi-permeable artificial membrane that protects one plane of existence. Dials are shallow replicas of the Purgoran Shield, which was created by the Gods of the Fore. Like the Shield, dials are weaved together with potent Hyrr incantations, but unlike their predecessor, the dials require constant maintenance and attention by several dial-priests for each barrier. While each dial can host its own enchantments and contracts, every dial shares the binding contract of Superpositional Asthenostasis, which prevented travel and warfare between planar residents until the War of Dials.
