Nerei (nuh-RAI)

Nerei is the Myelos goddess of oceans, rivers, rain, and aquatic life. She is one of the Gods of the Fore said to have been created at the very founding of existence. Nerei is a Walking God, but has not been sighted in nearly three hundred years. Her holy symbol is a spherical pool of blue and green water.   At one point, Nerei and Synedda were considered two halves of the foundation of existence. Having been associated together by Corporeal theologists as some of the first gods in existence, it was assumed that their domains were mirrors; inseparable in their connection. This would change at the start of the first Age of Anguish, however, when Nerei walked away from her mortal descendants voluntarily. The goddess saw the terrible wars brewing and decided to distance herself for the good of her children and herself. In the many eras since, her avatar has only very rarely been seen in the mortal worlds.   While still commonplace, worship of Nerei is a much more antiquated practice than that of other gods. Old dial-priests and members of the Golenic Order still carry out the rituals, but more out of tradition than loyalty or faith. Cities such as Zivilon and Quirrach have abandoned the practice in favor of more tangible, present gods such as Calydon and Tuir, having more concrete proof of their value to mortals.
