Brutus

Brutus is a mutant dog who serves as a deckhand aboard the Nomad. A designer mutant pet once popular among the Koan Empire, his DNA is spliced with bear genes to make him larger and more menacing. Brutus is a powerful combatant who can protect the Nomad against boarders or board enemy ships, using his size to charge enemies and knock them over. He spends much of his time aboard the Nomad mourning his friend and former master, Anh.
Brutus was originally the guard dog and pet of a Koan Barrister named Flavian. Not a particularly kind master, Flavian kept Brutus locked in a cage most of the time while he entertained guests in his mansion.
Anh found Brutus locked inside a secret basement while investigating Flavian's connection to the Blue Frogs and a plot to restore the Koan Empire that invovled kidnapping Koan squires and brainwashing them. After feeding his a steak and freeing him, Anh earned Brutus's affection and the dog helped him take down some of Flavian's guards. After the mission, Anh decided to give Brutus a better home inside the Nomad's spacious stables.
