College of Ages

The College of Ages is one of the nine colleges that form the Homyn Academy. It is located on the moon Winter and dedicated to the study of history and ancient culture. Given the number of civilizations with advanced technologies that existed in the spheres' past, the study of history is not stricly a subset of the humanities at the Academy. The college attracts just as many engineers and mystics to its ranks hoping to unlock ancient secrets of the past as it does archeologists and anthropologists whose interests lie in studying ancient cultures.
Two competing philosophies vie in the college's discourse. The contextualists seek to study ancient artifacts and cultures in the context of their time, using ruins and artifacts as a lens to understand ancient peoples. The modernists see the study of history as a means to an end, to learn from the technology (and mistakes) of ancient civilizations so those lessons can benefit the people living on the spheres today.
