27 - Sabratha of Elysium

When last we left our heroes... The pleasant, cool breeze of an Elysian day gently swayed the tall grass surrounding the group. The light scent of the sea off to the east was broken only by the heavy, earthen woods running adjacent to the field. Jordan's squirreling away of the data slabs pays off as the group finds out that they are near the small fishing town of Sabratha. The group encountered Yamar the Incredible, a shadow of a figure from Ailonora's distant past. Still characteristically devious, Yamar gifts a few items to members of the party, and after a long bout of trading, bartering, and even a glimpse into the future, the group parted ways with Yamar and Daisy. Shortly thereafter, the group finds themselves in the middle of a small group's preparations for an ambush. Combat ensued, the group handily defeated their would-be attackers, and the stark realization that the attackers might have been children sets in. Trying to decide what to do next as they make their way into Sabratha-proper... It is here we resume... and I turn the day over to you. What would you like to do now?   Session Plot Points   Sabratha
Sabratha of Elysium
  Local Items of Interest
  • The ambush point is a quick, 30-ish minute walk back to the outskirts of the town
  • The walk into town is essentially uneventful, save player-talk
  Town Facts
  • The town is filled with primarily children
  • All of the adults were taken or killed by a group of people
  • The children have been left to fend for themselves and have done their best to keep the town "running"
  • Most of the laborious jobs in town have been poorly continued by the children of the laborers
  • A make-shift government has been installed, run by the more powerful "older kids", at the Temple of Erebus in the town center; food, weapons, and gold have been cached in the temple
  • A couple of "adventuring groups" of children have been assembled to venture out into the surrounding areas to search for the town's adults (the ambush group was one such group)
  Adults Left in Town
  • Shadow Priestess Niera - Female Drow, minor healing abilities, Temple of Erebus back room
  • Aloof Witch - Marwa Qurai - Female Human Witch, mute, blind seer, southern outskirts home
  The Imposters
  • A group of "adventurers" came to the town about a week ago and essentially stole half of the town's gold
  • The group swindled the children into "hiring" them to go find the adults
  • The group never returned, and now the children are extremely cautious about hiring the party
  The Obelisk
  • An obelisk stands (ala Tower of Piza) near the town docks
  • The obelisk seemingly still sizzles and is warm as though it just landed
  • The obelisk was the harbinger of the adults disappearing
  • When activated, the Obelisk will open a portal to the underdark
  The Underdark
  • The party will find themselves waist deep in cold, inky-black water
  • There is no way back to Elysium from their current location (only spot will be in the Red Temple)
  • A massive dragon skull sits in the middle of a rocky, barren island in front of them
  • The first party member to set foot on the shore will trigger the ghastly, haunting figures of the townsfolk to come pouring out of the skull towards the water
  • If left alone, the ghasts will simply haunt their way past the party, exclaiming out loud the horrors of their deaths
  • If attacked, the 1d6 ghasts will swarm the party for 1d4 rounds, or until defeated
  • If the ghasts are attacked, there is a 50% chance that 1d12 swarms of 1HP skeletons will also attack the party
  • Once the skeletons are brought into the battle, the island will have a "lair action" at the top of the round in which it shakes, attempting to knock the PCs prone
  • After defeating the skeleton swarms, the beach will calm
  • A long rest will incur a 75% chance that more swarms will erupt from the mouth of the skull to attack the party
  The Red Temple
  • A high-level devotee of Hadar will be found feeding the souls of people snatched from the Material Plane to feed the hunger
  • After defeating the devotee(s), the part will find another obelisk
  • Upon inspection, the obelisk will peer back into Elysium and into Deros
  • The party will be faced with the decision to go back to the kids on Elysium, or continue their original quest to Deros
