Deva

A Deva is a Human who has been touched by the light, and has angelic traits. They can be considered the opposite of Cambions.   Deva are one of the rarest strains of humans, far rarer than their dark counterpart Cambions. Rather than being an accident of divine magic, Deva are supposedly hand-picked by the gods, though not to become a full angel. This may be for the purposes of being a part of human society, and interacting better with humans than the aloof and emotionless angels who serve the gods more directly.   The most common deva traits are softly glowing skin and hair, and golden blood. Many Deva have golden marks across their skin, feathers on their arms or back, and even halo-like structures on their head.   Despite their rarity, Deva are generally accepted in human societies, especially those which revere the Light. Unlike Cambions, they are not considered particularly dangerous, and have a reputation for helping communities they live amongst, regardless of whether this is true on a case by case basis. However, certain religions, especially those devoted to Darkness, may be biased against Deva, seeing them as overzealous crusaders.   Deva are designed to serve the will of the light, though they are not as blindly obedient to the gods as true Angels. Deva retain their free will, however the influence of the light is often reflected in their personality. Devas will usually be ambitious and optimistic, often stubbornly committed to their goals and ideals, to varying degrees of extremity. Many are incredibly selfless, to the detriment of their own well-being. Others may be violently zealous, and commit horrible actions in the name of their aspirations. Not all Deva are entirely loyal to the Light, though in their position it can be difficult to turn away. There is a lot of pressure on Deva to succeed and propagate the Light, they are champions who usually did not choose to be. Many Deva feel constantly watched by the gods, and gain a paranoid fear of making mistakes or stepping out of line. Those Deva who do turn from the will of the Light are often subtly punished for doing so. They may find the benefits of their divine form diminish, or become unreliable. They may suffer terrible nightmares or visions of torment. Some may suffer worse fates, the Light does not like to be disappointed or betrayed.
