Tyrrus

Ahhh, Tyrrus, Home of Heroes! Centre of Innovation and Industry! Tyrrus was cut off from the rest of the world for many centuries by the mountains and storms of its fringes, as it was designed by the Arcane Dragonqueen Zythia to be a perfect place for Human Civilisation to grow. 70 years ago, the storms ceased, and canyons formed in the mountains, in an event known as the Worldshaking , allowing the people of Tyrrus to bravely set forth into the rest of the world, and exert their considerable influence and power.   Tyrrus is a large, temperate region upon the continent of Estiel, which is home to multiple advanced and powerful civilisations. It is generally considered to have the highest technology access and scientific growth out of all the major regions of the world.   Tyrrus is the homeland of the Erdannian Empire, Kingdom of Whytehold, Thassalia, and the Dominion of New Haven, along with a number of smaller micro-nations.   People from Tyrrus are called Tyrraneans, and speak Tyrranean.   Tyrrus is bordered to the East by Izir, to the West by Hirokir, to the North by Kaldinen, and to the South by The Shattered Sea.

Geography

Despite being adjacent to the sweltering jungles of Hirokir and the dry deserts of Izir, Tyrrus possesses a temperate climate, cooled by the Tormentistian Stream from the south. The majority of Tyrrus' geography is rolling hills, expansive grasslands, thick forests, high mountains, and meandering rivers. However, the growing industry and push for productivity has caused a lot of deforestation and destruction of habitats.   Tyrrus is bordered on three sides by large mountain ranges, the Sunset Mountains in the West, the Sunrise Mountains in the East, and the Northern Bulwark. To the south is a long coastline bordering the Secluded Sea .

Localized Phenomena

Tyrrus possesses a few phenomenal locations, where magic and/or deific intervention has caused the landscape to disobey the regular rules of nature or physics.

The Peaks of New Haven

At the centre of the city of New Haven is one of the most bizarre magical phenomena in the world, a series of enormous floating rocks, suspended in the air with seemingly no support. This phenomenon appeared during the Worldshaking ; the event where the Dragon Sovereigns opened canyons in the mountains around Tyrrus and removed the eternal storms at its fringes. The exertion of such massive geomantic energy seems to have caused unintended consequences.   The refugees of Haven discovered these strange rocks, and built their new city around it, building elevators and stairways up to the great floating crags, and making huge chains to keep them from floating away.

The Everwood

One of the largest remaining forested regions of Tyrrus, The Everwood is a home of Druids and Elves , an ancient forest saturated with Life Magic, and fiercely defended by its residents. The Everwood possesses many strange magical phenomena; for a start, winters tend to be shorter there, and plant life grows far denser and larger than usual.

The Wrakstrand

On the southern coast of the Kingdom of Whytehold is a stretch of shore known as the Wrakstrand . This region is known for bearing the brunt of the storms which wreak havoc on the southern coast of Tyrrus. This combined with the region's sandy beaches, hidden reefs, and sedimentary land, mean that the coastline changes structure every time a storm hits, and often strange things are washed up on the beaches. The region is a popular destination for archaeologists and treasure hunters for this reason, you never know what you might find among the treacherous shallows...

Climate

The southern regions of Tyrrus are warm and temperate, though often wracked by inclement weather from the Tormentistan Stream. The weather becomes generally cooler further north, but is never inhospitably cold, except for the northern mountains.

History

Pre-Zero

Very little is known about Tyrrus before the year 0, when Mountains were arisen around the region. Before this, the region was likely an area of arid plains and hills. There are three known culture groups inhabiting the region during this time; the Caerth in the North, the Astrygonians along the South coast, and the Wayfarers, whose nomadic routes took them through the region and all across the continent. The Caerth and the Wayfarers still exist as extant cultures in the modern day, but the Astrygonians are a mysterious civilisation whose culture is long dead, though they are said to have been dedicated scholars, who developed a basis for the Runic script used by modern Tyrranean Mages .

Tyrrus formed

with the rise of powerful anti-dragon civilisations in the East (Izero) and West (Chakradei Empire), several of the Dragon Sovereigns decided to try to create a safe, secluded area where they could build a large following outside of the influence of these growing powers. Zythia lead this effort, however most of the actual work was done by Shoguvhan. Over the course of several decades, huge mountain ranges were arisen around the region, completely blocking it off by land. At the centre of the region, an enormous mountain was risen, to act as a home for the Dragons who would take refuge in the newly created region. This mountain would become known as The Dragonclaw. One result of this, over time, was that many new rivers appeared across the region, turning it from dry arid scrublands into fertile plains. However, for reasons that are mostly a mystery, this also resulted in the rapid decline of the Astrygonians. This may have been due to their trade routes being completely stopped, and the area north of them becoming more desirable land to settle in, and may have been encouraged by Zythia, who wanted humans to settle around The Dragonclaw.
