Anti-Skill
Overview
If a player would like to do so, they may adopt "anti-skills" in exchange for additional skill proficiencies. A check made using an anti-skill has the proficiency modifier subtracted from the base roll rather than added. The new skill and its anti-skill counterpart must use the same ability score.
Examples:
- Steve would like his level 1 character to have Deception as an additional skill and Performance as an anti-skill. Can he do this? Yes: Both Deception and Performance are Charisma-based skills. If his character has a Charisma score of 12, then his modifier for Deception is +3 and his modifier for Performance is now -1.
- Teri would like her level 20 character to have Medicine as an additional skill and Survival as an anti-skill. Can she do this? Yes: Medicine and Survival are both Wisdom-based skills. If she has a Wisdom score of 18, then her modifier for Medicine is now +10 and her modifier for Survival is now -2.
- Rich would like his level 5 character to have Insight as an additional skill and Arcana as an anti-skill. Can he do that? No: Insight is Wisdom-based and Arcana is Intelligence-based. If he'd like, he could do a skill like Animal-Handling as an anti-skill to Insight, but he can't do Arcana since it uses a different ability score.
