Reynard the Fox

"This is cause for celebration! Without your title or your wealth, you can learn to have some real fun."   -Reynard the Fox
Fey creatures can come in every shape and size, some beautiful and others terrible. One of the only things these creatures have in common are strange and anomalous powers and a mentality that seems chaotic and mad to mortal kind. Among the most powerful of these are the archfey, much like Reynard the Fox, the patron of the woodland nation of Reynardia.

Physical Description

Body Features

In his true form, Reynard resembles a human man with the head of a fox. Short red fur covers his body with a light tan underside. He's not an imposing figure, small and quite slim. His bright eyes have a mischievous gleam, and he's almost always seen with a sly smile across his vulpine lips.   With his powers of shapeshifing, he can also take other forms. Usually these other forms are of a normal fox or a human. These human forms are of an attractive, rakish bandit, usually, but not always male. Occasionally, travelers might find themselves watched or accosted by Reynard and never even know.

Apparel & Accessories

The dress and appearance of Reynard changes based on the time. He always appears as the very image of a roguish gentleman bandit. The colors are almost always the sort of earth tones that help him blend in to his forested environment and catch his prey unawares.   Currently, he has a wide-brim hat with a feather in it. His green clothing is accentuated by a dark cape over his shoulder. He wields a fancy, well-made rapier. It looks like the weapon of a prince in the hands of a simple highwayman.

Possessions

As a trickster, Reynard is primarily known as a thief. His thefts left one noble after another entirely destitute, and that's not to mention the heists he pulled against his fellow fey. This has left him tremendously wealthy, far more so than practically every other being in Covenant.    His lair is home to all manner of treasures, attracting especially ambitious thieves. Reynard finds these attempts charming, but still severely punishes those he catches. He does this to make such a daring act a gamble, and so he can enjoy mortals risking everything in their own schemes.   His wondrous treasures are kept in his lair in the Otherworld, a massive burrow that seems like those of mundane foxes, but much larger and finer. It is more of a palace than a den, a luxurious home open to very few. It is reached through simple-seeming holes dug not only in Covenant and the Otherworld, but other worlds, as well.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

It is unknown just where fey creatures such as Reynard come from. No one can truly say whether they are born as mortals are, or are created from the power of the Otherworld, itself. As far as anyone can tell, he might have simply always existed since the dawn of time-- a spirit of rebellion, itself.   Reynard's forest in Covenant was mostly avoided, and legends told of what manner of dangers existed there. Truly, only the most desperate would ever go there, and the first to meet him were indeed that desperate. These people were Aurandian criminals united by their desire to escape from the authorities.   These were very much the sort of people that Reynard adored. He used his tricks to deceive those hunting them, keeping these criminals hidden and safe. Because some found sanctuary there, more followed, eventually creating a society of their own-- a nation that come to bear the name of their patron of old: Reynardia.   Since that time, Reynard has been an unseen presence in his land. Tales tell of the tricks of he'd played on fey and mortal authorities alike. They say always watches over Reynardia, with a sly smirk and a cunning scheme in his devious mind.
