Personal history
Guerdon Mags - a tall, wiry Deyan, is the head of the Mags family, a family well known for its intellectual pursuits (engineering) and superior morphing abilities. Deyans are proud and competitive and every family has a few secret skills that they have cultivated in their genetic line and the Mags Clan has an excellent covert strain of Lightbending . Whatever shenanigans young Deyans get up to when their powers are emerging is forgiven except for sharing the secrets of their clan powers.

Motivation
Guerdon thinks of himself as a gentle head of clan. According to him, he dotes. The youngest of his 6 children, Aliena , was born with the coveted lightbending gift and has been groomed from a young age to lead the clan. While Aliena can be stubborn and is overly concerned with galactic politics, she is Guerdon's darling. He was not at all happy with her choice to spend her cultural studies on Earth.
Fundamentally, Guerdon lives for all things clan. While he is an engineer and lightbender himself, at heart he is the clan director and operates with a sure vision. He has been actively looking for ways to lure Aliena back to Deya including picking a fight with a neighboring clan - but if she found out about his duplicity, it would create a rift and he is not prepared to risk that. Yet.
It is an age old story: The father adores the child and wants nothing more than for them to be close and involved in everything he loves. The child would have liked a hug now and then.
