Arcanosynthesis
Arcanosynthesis is a process in which a creature or animal, magical or mundane, has the natural ability to absorb residual magical energy from their environments. This process works similar to photosynthesis, the arcanosynthetic creature simply detects and gains energy from a nearby source of magic. The effect is much more localized though, unlike the light of a star, and the creature must be much closer to the source of magic than a plant would be to the sun. It is a trait common to creatures that live in eldritch forests or beings created by mages, such as a Homunculus, to dwell in magic rich environments.
The most famous example is the scholastic belief that Dragons are arcanosynthetic.
Arcanosynthesis is different than arcanosustenance, in which a creature has an internal source of magic which fuels it, such as a Golem's crystal heart, or an undead's connection to the Entropic Plane.
