Abandoned Mines
When the societies started to develop in settlements a monetary system was developed and as people started to gain their wealth and start using money as a social standing in the larger cities. Because of this development with money society started to become more interested in material items as they had money and wealth to flaunt. Many craftsmen’s and artisans started make more decorative items in hope that it would sell, and they too would become rich.
Whilst this economic boom was happening, one of the largest iron mines owned by a mage decided that it would best for them to split their work force so that they can have a separate mine that would also be working to access the raw materials that they can sell to craftsmen.
A group of 23 families where set up outside a small mine that was known for having gold deposits in the smaller tunnels. They erected a small village of temporary structures for everyone to live in with a small community that would feed and support itself. Unfortunately, after a few months of mining the deposits were all used up they ventured deeper into the tunnel system testing the rock when they broke through a pocket of stone that caused a violent illness in the miners that were in the area. These infected miners barely made it out of the caves to their homes before they all collapsed and died, those of the family that saw the men running from the tunnels say that they saw them gasping for air as though they were drowning on land. After most of the miners died the families fled the area claiming they had been cursed from the earth for taking its precious stone, all of the structures are still there with most of the houses full of their belongings as no one wanted to return to the area after the deaths of the men.
In the years following the gold that was retrieved from the mines was seen to be cursed as it was from the same cave that poisoned the miners. Most of the gold was thrown away for given away to bring the owner good luck from passing the cursed objects on.
