Dark Wolves

As wolves are natural predators with impressive size, speed, strength and hunting ability, it’s easy to see why many humans would be naturally intimidated by these animals. When you factor in the superstitions and myths surrounding wolves the mixed reception that they can get starts to make sense. Most people that live in more remote areas tend to have had interactions with wolves, as they’re by nature a roaming creature inside their territory. Because of their natural stealth and reflective eyes, they are seen as supernatural creatures although unlike the fleeting wind owl, and the fire snake, wolves aren’t celebrated.   In the northern regions of the land, there are a few small towns and villages all dotted across the western side. These area’s in particular believe that a wolf is the single most dangerous animal they can encounter. As these villages are so remote, they’ve accepted all the myths that they would tell each other, and the wolves that are stealing their animals and turned it into fact for themselves.   Because Wolves usually hunt at night time, they’re calls and howls to each other can be heard all over the lands, these howls that travel, are said to be the screams of the animals themselves trying to break free from their skins, as they are actually a malicious spirit that for generations has been trapped inside the skin of the animal. The exact reason as to why or how they’ve been trapped is unclear, but the assumption is that it must be a true evil for the earth to have allowed the wolves to be continuing the entrapment of the spirit. Because these are seen as evil, they are often killed on sight, even if they’re not harming or trespassing on human territory as it’s a mercy killing to save the animal and destroy the spirit.   Whilst most of the other settlements see wolves as a negative, its only as they may steal their livestock or scare away any animals that could have been hunted. To kill a wolf for personal gain or without being threatened would be an act of disrespect against the earth and one of its most efficient and strong creations, so it is a rare occurrence that usually has a nefarious purpose.
