Uncertain Heirs

No one can truly speak to the validity of the story I am about to tell you. After all, it's only the gods that know the truth of things. Alas, it's a story that explains much of our history. Including why the great war started, but we will get to that.    So pull up your chairs and enjoy the story of the uncertain Heirs.   This is a story from a time immemorial. It is said that the leader of the gods was always meant to be the god or goddess of light. Therefore, that position was held for them.   However, eons passed and still a god or goddess of light had not been born or come into existence. The oversight of the primordial gods had all but disappeared. The only one that could of even be found was Aeon, the incarnation of time itself.   With the ultimate position of power left empty for so long, many of the gods had grown restless. Some thought that they would never come, others had decided they didn't need a leader. That things were good as is. Then there were a few who though that they deserve to lead.   Clearly this caused tension in all the heavens. Yet, none dared start a struggle for power. At most, small indirect tiffs occurred.   Then one day it finally happened. Their leader was born... But wait, something want right. There wasn't one, but two dieties of light brought into the world. Twins, a boy and girl.    It is said that it was on the day of their birth that our two suns took on their colours. That the birth of these beings, their mere presence in our cosmos, breathe life into our suns. One reacting to the boy and the other the girl.   This brought up a problem though. The two being born stimulus simultaneously caused an issue.   Which was the one to lead the gods? There was only ever meant to be the one. Some said it was whoever was born first, which lead to claims about both children. It was quickly clear that solution was getting them nowhere.   So gods and goddesses began taking sides. Some believed that the boy was the right choice. Clearly, he was going to be bigger, stronger, and make a wiser and more powerful leader.   Others thought the girl would be better. She would be smarter and lead with grace, dignity, and fairness. She would be the warmth and hope brought with the sunrise; the beauty and elegance of the sunset always promising her timely return. The boy would be the hot summer sun, bearing down mercilessly on his subjects. Bringing waves of heat, drought, and perhaps even death with every flare of his temper.   So, tensions, which were already high, continued to rise as divinities choose sides. The twins grew up together at first. You would never have found them apart, but as these tensions continue to build they found themselves separated. Each being told that they were the rightful ruler of the gods that they were to be the true rulers over everything.   Sho as each of them grew under the purview of different gods, they grew into very, very different beings. By the time that they were of age to rule, they too were at each other's throats. As with everyone else they weren't happy with the situation there was no clear sign of which of them was to be the ruler.   The neutral parties watched this clash between the two and stayed as far as they could. It wasn't long before infighting broke out between the two groups. Nothing serious and never anything direct as anything direct would be detrimental to everyone. Neither side was strong enough to win. At least not without serious casualties...    And so for several eons all fighting occurred in a very indirect way. In fact, many believe that these very fights are what cause the Newid Byd. Perhaps that is why they have not been as frequent since the Great war.   But alas this back and forth neither side gaining footage was not to last. Something was happening far away... Another world, another dimension, another plane... No one knows for certain where she came from.   All that is known is that the first hints of her existence popped up around the same time that city appeared in the country of Ayräsmûs. Rumour has it that she came with it bringing with her darkness and cold worse than anything ever experienced before anywhere in this world.   Now see, this is where... the problem starts. Not long after her supposed arrival, all of the infighting between the gods suddenly became worse. It's almost as if her arrival... Tipped a scale. Suddenly, we had more direct conflicts between gods and they got the beings of the world involved as well. See, no one can tell you when the Great war started or even really what it was about.   However, if I were to venture a guess... I think that the Great war started the moment that she arrived, the fighting just began later.   Yet, do you know the problem with the story of the uncertain Heirs? Other than the obvious fact that we can't possibly know the truth since we aren't gods ourselves.   The problem lies with the fact that even though the Great war ended, nothing was ever truly resolved. As far as we know, neither our lovely goddess of light or our strong God of light really came out on top. We know what ended the war, at least here on the world. Speaking of that, perhaps those are just a story as well... But that's a story for another day.     We don't worship either over the other.  So, could you really say that either one took the leadership position?   Hmmm... Perhaps the war ended because they set aside there's differences and decided to lead together. Yet, something tells me that that is not quite the case and one day tensions will once again rise. When that happens, who knows what will become of our precious world.
