Fledgling

A fledgling is a newly-Embraced vampire who has not yet been introduced to Kindred society and formally emancipated from her sire. To this end, a sire is responsible for the actions of his childe until he deems her able enough to hande Cainite culture on her own. Some Clan shelter their fledglings for years or decades, like the Tremere, while others, like many Gangrel and Brujah, figure that once you're a vampire, you're on your own - tough shit if you can't hack it.   The Sabbat, who sometimes call their hastily-Embraced fledglings 'shovelheads' due to their bizarre Embrace rituals - are usually rather pragmatic: If the fledgling survives and does something worthwhile, she's not a shovelhead anymore.   The Camarilla are a touch more arcane. For the longest time, the Sect sought to collect all Kindred under its umbrella. In recent years, it has become much more select. There is no longer one Embrace for Camarilla Kindred, but two. The first Embrace is physical. The second is social, when one is initiated into the Camarilla, and is only granted to those who are considered to deserve it. Both Embraces operate under an 'accept or die for real' policy. Until a fledgling is released from the Accounting, she is considered barely more than a ghoul. Upon release she is considered an anarch and abandoned until she earns her Second Embrace. To the unlucky, 'release' happens very shortly after 'woke up dead' and they're left to figure things out almost entirely on their own, though the jury's out as to whether the ones who recieve a long period of education/brainwashing are any luckier, really.
