The Frozen Dozen
The Frozen Dozen is an unsolved murder case from the 1600's. A group of twelve of the royal family had been invited to a feast and were found a few weeks later frozen solid in blocks of ice.
Summary
On a Tuesday afternoon in 16--, Twelve members of the royal family had been invited, by the prince, to a feast. They were later all found frozen in blocks of ice, with the exception of the prince, who was found passed out, bleeding, and tied to a chandelier.
Within a few hours of a servant finding the guests and the prince, newspaper reporter's scrambled to cover the story, interviewing the emperor about his son's behaviour, not giving the prince time to recover from what must have been a traumatic ordeal before interviewing him and contacting the families of the victims.
Police arrived on the scene and arrested many reporters, however, within two days the news had spread across the empire.
The police then began an investigation into the murders but were unable to find the killer.
Spread
The cold case is common knowledge, but any speculations which depict the prince as guilty are illegal. This illegality is not common knowledge, however, it has backfired by making those who know of the speculation and the illegality more convinced that he did kill them.
Variations & Mutation
There is a book based on the events which, although the characters are based on the people involved, shows each murder happen at a different location and time. This is based on an inaccurate news report which stated that the prince was 'Nearly the latest victim of an unknown ice-murderer'
Cultural Reception
Some people believe that the prince had killed them. However, there's no way the prince could have killed them because he would have needed to know magic and had also been attacked himself.
Unfortunately, telling people this has lead to some people believing more strongly in the prince's presumed guilt.
In Literature
The book 'Accusation' was written about Prince under suspect of freezing people.
The book 'Dead Ice' was written about twelve people killed by one person who wanted revenge, with their final victim escaping before being frozen, however this book has the deaths occur seperately.
The poem 'Dozen icicles' is about the feast.
In Art
There's a painting titled 'The frozen dozen, and the cold-hearted one', which depicts the prince freezing his guests.
The song 'Frost' is written about the twelve guests.
In the royal palace there is a statue of the prince hanging from a chandelier titled 'The guiltfree'
This was originally going to be longer, however, I was ill during the challenge. I'm still going to submit this as I did attempt it, and I do hope to add more content before the closing date.
