Yuki-onna

Making their towns atop mountains, Yuki-Onna (literally "snow women") were once a rare sight outside of winter, but have experienced a flourish in population and culture since the Death of the Sun and the ensuing 19 year ice age. Their estimated numbers more than tripled when they were finally able to roam Nalchaa unhindered and, at least temporarily, began living in most major cities and creating families there. They can endure mild warmth like humans but become uncomfortable quickly. They are far more susceptible to heatstroke and prefer the comfort and safety of the freezing cold were they have an edge over most other living creatures. There are of course males of this race, but the women out number them 3:1 so the women often seek out mates from other humanoid species, the children always following their lineage. Young yuki-onna have cultivated a horrid reputation for freezing their paramours when jilted.   In this dark and cold age of sunless winters yuki-onna have taken up very important roles in society as protectors, hunters, messengers and more where their cold immunity lets them preform outdoor activities that could be fatal for most other races. Several bands of samurai and rangers commanded from their cultural home of Kotta Mune comb the winter lands protecting the roads and small settlements from monsters and dark-crazed animals. These groups are called "sleet squads" thought the youth & outsiders jokingly refer to them and their commanders as the "snowgonate."   Their palettes often reflect their environment, snow-white or icy blue skin beset with eyes and hair in cool colors like blue, lavender, and silver. Typical names follow the theme: Winter, Yuki, Mizore, Sneeu, Zimni, and Fuyu.   Common alignment: Any Neutral.  

Statistics

 
  • Size: medium.
  • Base speed: 30, land.
  • Cold blooded: yuki-onna are immune to cold damage and effects, but have a weakness to fire.
  • -4 against Heat effects that would cause a character to become fatigued.
  • +2 to hide, move silently, and tracking in the snow.
  • Snow step: character takes no penalty to movement speed or moving silently for moving over icy or snow covered surfaces.
  • Racial ability: The snow woman may do any two of the below abilities after she has had a long rest.
  1. Freezing Breath: She blows a minty fresh ray of frost along a 25ft line. This standard action is a ranged touch attack dealing 1d4+1 damage.
    If used on a still pool of liquid (other than acid or lava) this creates a 1ft wide, 1ft deep bridge.
  2. Icy Touch: she may make a melee touch attack dealing 1d4+1+STR cold damage. Using this ability does not provoke an attack of opportunity.
  3. Armed With Ice: Any weapon with which the character is proficient she may replicate with her own ice. The ice clone weapon has the stats of its masterwork counterpart as well as being Perfectly Balanced and half the weight. Ice weapons have 15 hit points per inch of thickness and a hardness of 8.
    Forming the weapon in her hand takes only a swift action and lasts for 1 hour in before melting (unless in winter or a freezing environment, where it shatters after 24 hours).
    Alternatively the weapon may be thrown or shattered at will for 1d6 cold & piercing damage in a 10ft radius.
