MRice Log Date 1907
Melody Rice is a Crooked Mile local, who takes her reporting position seriously. If her reviews do not appeal to readers, she asks they contact her supervisor at the Gazette News, a flighty gentleman who doesn't take her seriously. It is likely her supervisor won't bother to discuss concerns and complaints with Melody. Nothing he says seems to go through her ear and out the other. Neither does his admonition take residence inside her brain matter.

The Crooked Mile Gazette is a local newspaper with aspirations to distribute its news to a wider audience. The editors are looking for the opportunity to join a media syndicate. A few reporters moved to Crooked Mile after the syndicate bought out the Newfaire newspapers. They were left behind and they haven't forgot it. The scoop is the most important objective in their lives.   Reed Collins, a local reporter, jumps at the chance to scoop the Lenny Garamund Stables Stampede. He sneaks into the Gazette to find three other reporters already writing their stories for the 6pm edition of the paper closed for the holiday. So he decides to call an invested editor in Newfaire who agrees with him that a special edition of the paper should go out immediately. He forgets to mention the reporters who are staring at him. He grabs his half written article and heads to the tavern where he finds his press buddies drinking their sorrows away. He agrees to pay them an extra few dollars for printing that one page special edition for the paper. He expects the special edition will please his editor and the paper will continue to distribute these editions in the future.   Reed and his editor talk often about how flare thinnings are increasing their chances for making news. "Salacious and horrifying news is the best reason for buying a newspaper, particularly when its entertaining." When the market opens he plans to buy a camera, so he can take his own photos using the best angles."
