Family Knots
The Drumkeeploch Manor is owned by Circle Founder, Jason Garamund. It is the first private home built in Crooked Mile. Jason Garamund invited Candela Obscura members to his home for several months before he turned a barn not far from the house into a Circle Chapter Meeting House.
He still uses the Manor House like a bed and breakfast for out of town guests. Instead of paying him for a night's stay, guests donate to the cause of keeping any flare bleed in Crooked Mile at bay.
The house includes Jason's Laboratory where he conducts forensic examinations for the police department. What the police department doesn't know is that Jason records any phenomena or anatomy exceptions that verifies paranormal bleed. The lab is not easily found. Its secret door opens behind a mirror hidden among atrium plants.
Cartographer Timothy Lignon Notes:
Manor House Room Descriptions |
---|
Cook's Room: Located behind the kitchen, the cook Muriel Lister prepares the meals and manages the Manor. Her room is clean and accessible, quiet and free from prying eyes. She can hide valuables between her mattresses and no one thinks to take a peek. Her "single bed bank" is growing by the day. |
Crystal Desk: The desk belongs in Jason's Office and Lab, but it often requires relocation to another room in the house or the tower where Jason found the materials and gadgets to build it shortly after the Six Years War. The software installed in the desk is continuously updating on its own. |
Curiosity Cabinet: A cabinet located in the library in a dark corner, rarely noticed by visitors, but easily recognized by Circle investigators. The cabinet does appear to overflow, even when restored artifacts and documents are stuffed into it. In this case restored means wiped clean of "bleed" so that investigators can read the text and examine the artifacts without worrying about contagion or indoctrination. |
Guest Room: Since the guest room is located near the front of the Manor House it is accessible to visitors who stay overnight. It is a lovely room with large windows that projects colors on the walls. Guests are encouraged to sleep well. They expect that every room in the home compares with the guest room's opulence. |
Hatch: Living without an escape Hatch is unthinkable. Jason Garamund remembers well how challenging it was to keep the Seasway Resort open during the Six Year War, and how often evacuations were necessary. The Hatch opens into a large cleared area of a fenced woods that is not easily breached by criminals or the Triumvirate. |
Kitchen: The Kitchen is managed by Muriel Lister. It is also a secret meeting room where Jason and Muriel meet to discuss his plans. It is not uncommon for Muriel to bake breads for local residents who share plans with Jason. Defensive daggers are easily embedded into loaves of bread. |
Library: Before the Seasway Resort Library, a favored room for guests to visit on rainy days, Jason moved its shelves, stacks, and card catalogs to his barn in Crooked Mile. He planned to use the furnishings to fill the Crooked Mile Lending Library, but decided to let the residents decide what sort of library they needed. The residents, for example, chose to read graphic novels and pulp fiction, housekeeping magazines and research books. If a lender chooses a classic novel, Muriel transfers the book from the Manor House Library to the Lending Library within the week. The process works well and Jason is always delighted to walk into his own library to look for a bedtime story he read while still a boy. |
Manor Porch: It's not unusual to see Jason and Ernest Roe standing on the porch looking out at the Perpetual Sea. Ernest is rarely invited into the house, but he is always invited to share the porch rocking chairs during his breaks from tending the garden and the barn yard animals. |
Morgue: Jason Garamund's faith in the Periphery court system is lacking. He is known to dig up graves for the purpose of reexamining a corpse. The morgue is only accessible to Jason, Muriel Lister, Dr. Dean Quincey and Timothy Lignon, who call what they do "working on a cold case." Regardless of whether the cold case is 6 years old or 36 hours old. Muriel Lister does manage to clean the morgue, but she has yet to see a corpse. |
Office Lab: Jason Garamund, his colleagues, and Circle members spend much of their time visiting Jason in his office and lab. He needs plenty of room to tinker, and he spends several hours every day in the lab dictating into his Crystal Ball desk. Circle members come in with Muriel's permission to use the lab to address flare thinning and bleed issues. Muriel tries to be careful about staying clear of bleed absorption, but Ernest Roe, who sneaks into the lab to steal equipment crates knows nothing about required safety precautions. |
Parlor Study: When elite members of the Triumvirate visit the Manor House, they are ushered into the Parlor. It is the safest place in the house to serve them tea, crumpets, or absinthe. By the time they leave the comfort and homey atmosphere, satiated with food and drink, they forget about touring the rest of the house. Jason and Muriel suggest the room is stuffy with cigar smoke. Garamund visitors are more than ready to sit out on the porch and watch the sunset or the moon depending upon the time of day they come and go. Besides the restroom facilities were intentionally built outside. No one should be wandering around the Manor House looking for a loo. If a visitor is found snooping, he/she is likely a cold case suspect. Other remedies await suspects. |
Cellar Passage: Only Jason Garamund and Timothy Lignon know about the root cellar. Not even Muriel Lister is allowed to disturb it. She is told that family ghouls freely haunt the basement, and that her painful death is forecast to occur in the root cellar. So she doesn't take the chance to open the locked door. There are times when Timothy is given permission to lead Circle members through the cellar to the passageway beyond. The passageway takes them into a large passageway commonly used by smuggler and thieves that met the Garamund years before and during the Six Years War. There is no trust between any of the passageway users, but they do share a loathing for the Triumvirate. |
Sun Room: The Sun Room is the Manor House Party and Game Room. Jason's friends and Circle members are invited to share dinners & celebrations in the Sun room. If an elite snoop wants to see more of the Manor House, he brings them here and to the guest room. The room is currently decorated for a dinner party never held on Crooked Mile Independence Day, July 19, 1907. |
