Melody Rice is a Crooked Mile local, who takes her reporting position seriously. If her reviews do not appeal to readers, she asks they contact her supervisor at the Gazette News, a flighty gentleman who doesn't take her seriously. It is likely her supervisor won't bother to discuss concerns and complaints with Melody. Nothing he says seems to go through her ear and out the other. Neither does his admonition take residence inside her brain matter.

The Harvest Temple is Crooked Mile’s most attended church. Its pastor is appointed by the Ascendancy, but it was built in the 1860s for landowners. It is not up to date, nor do the elders plan any renovations. The residents who don’t belong to Harvest Temple are not church-goers or they take the Sunday morning train (when available) to the Fairelands. Newfaire Ascendancy churches employ authored pastors, priests and speakers. Many churches hire professional entertainers to accompany the church organists.
The Ascendancy does not permit other religious groups to build their meeting houses in the Fairelands. A few diverse faith groups meet secretly. When news about proposals for the house of worship spring up, the Triumverate quickly contracts an agreement with the home group to move into Faraway.
