Domnitriorr

Domnitrirror is a traditional Primnian coming of age ceremony in which an adolescent sixteen years or older engages in non-lethal combat with another member of the same age and sex. The winner is officially declared an adult.

History

Domnitriorr originates from selective pressure among Primnian society as a relatively honorable alternative to pillaging the homes of the innocent and indiscriminate drafting that would occasionally occur when resources were stretched. Still, early matches had no rules, and would sometimes result in people getting seriously maimed or even killed. Over time, the process has become a coming-of-age ceremony for adolescents of a certain age to prove their might to their people.

Execution

The participants face each other, bow, and then fight until one is left standing or an opponent yields. If a weapon is used, the condition is changed to "the first to draw blood wins". Sometimes, tournaments of up to sixty-four matches are held in massive stadiums that draw in hundreds if not thousands. Cheaters, if caught are shunned and banished. However, if they get away with it, winners are praised for their cleverness.

Components and tools

Combatants may use any sort of weapon or enhancement of their liking. However, this means they must also face an opponent who is skilled with the exact same equipment or given the exact same enhancement. No matter the weapon, participants are given several pieces of padded equipment to cover their head, neck, chest, and crotch in order to reduce the risk of grievous injuries in hoping that even if someone loses, they are always ready to try again.

Participants

The core contest consists of two people, and an impartial judge who holds two flags, one in each hand, used to declare a winner on each side. An audience is also allowed, but the crowds must remain at least six feet from the battle.

Observance

Domnitrirror matches can be held any time during the year.

Brutal! I love the history behind the tradition; most traditions do have something reasonable that started them, after all—even if it was a very long time ago.
