Human governments are usually ruled by a noble class, but their influence is far from ironclad. Most of their resources are spent on keeping the dangerous wildlife out of civilized areas, leaving the common people relatively free from oppression. Conjurers fill a similar role to knights or militias and are usually tasked with keeping the peace and patrolling the nobles’ territory for wandering crytures.
A noble's status is usually secured by binding a legendary cryture, giving them a mystical claim to that cryture’s territory. Disputes between nobility are usually settled by pitting their crytures against one another in formalized duels. These disputes may escalate into all-out feuds, prompting regular duels between rank-and-file conjurers on either side of the feud.
Some mythic conjurers eschew the formalities of the nobles and choose to rule by their own whims, however. Regardless of what rules they abide by, having control of a mythic cryture still imparts the same supernatural claim to the land that spawned it.
