HISTORY:
A couple hundred years ago,
Strahd Von Zarovich became infatuated with a young girl named Marina. He believed her to be the reincarnation of his lost love Tatyana. Marina was the daughter to the village's burgomaster Lazlo Ulrich. After seducing and feasting on her one night, Ulrich became aware of what was going on. With the help of the local priest named Brother Grigor, they murdered Marina in order to save her soul from damnation. Strahd, in a moment of passionate rage, viciously slew Ulrich and Brother Grigor. Afterwords, he caused a massive flood to flow down the River Luna and engulf the village entirely which later turned into a marshland. The villagers fled, most never to return again due to harsh and unforgiving environment of the wetlands.
Many years later,
Baba Lysaga made this place her permanent residence after being kicked out of
Castle Ravenloft. Here, she began to form a covenant of women and children which grew over time.
