Session Four: A New Party is Born
General Summary
The party reconvene at the Blood on the Vine tavern to go over the days events and discuss the options ahead of them. Here, the quickly incorporate Elise - the woman they saw outside of the Burgermeister's home - into their efforts. The party agrees that they should help Ismark and Ireena Kolyanovich escape the Village of Barovia. Having overheard them mentioning the possibility of hiring a Vistani caravan to escort them and the Kolyanovich siblings to Vallaki, the tavern's owner - Alenka - suggests that they hire her brother. As the party shows interest in learning how much this arragement would cost, Alenka sends her barkeep - Arik - to fetch her brother.
Eventually, Ismark returns to the tavern and joins the party's deliberations. When asked about hiring a Vistani escort, Ismark shares his reservations against this course of action. He doesn't trust the Vistani and claims that they are aligned with Strahd.
Arik returns and reports back to Alenka who, in turn, tells the party that her brother has offered to escort them for the price of eight gold pieces. The party says they will mull over this offer and Alenka and Arik enter the kitchen. Shortly thereafter, four Vistani men enter the tavern. One identifies himself as Alenka's brother, Sergei, and that he will gladly use his two wagons to escort the group to Vallaki for twelve gold pieces. After fielding a handful of smirky questions that are essentially veiled threats, the four mean transform into werewolves.
The battles that ensues demonstrates how quickly Landan, Tali'ana, Vanhill, and Elise become a single fighting unit. Despite taking a fair amount of damage in melee themselves, the party kill all four weresolves, including one who ran out of the tavern. After the combat is complete, Elise takes a log from the fireplace and sets the tavern ablaze.
Ismark and the party return to the Burermeister home where Ireena awaits them. The decision is made: they we hold out in the barricaded home overnight and travel to Valleki in the morning by utilizing the Burgermeister's old wagon and a neighborhoods nag of a horse, for which they leave a pouch of gold on the neighbor's porch.
At dawn the party makes their way out of the village of Barovia as the session ends....
