Baron Vargas Vallakovich

Burgomaster. Father. Husband. Ruthless heel. Vargas Vallakovich was a man who ruled Vallaki with an iron fist, and sought to rid his town of the depression and misery of Strahd's domain. However, his tactics were morally skewed, and Vargas Vallakovich was far from a virtuous man; imprisonment, torture, and oppression were Vargas' tactics to leading a peaceful and orderly town. His famous catchphrase "All will be well!" became a pathetic joke amongst Vallakians, but they dared not say so unless they wanted to feel the wrath of the Baron and his monstrous henchman, Izek Strazni.
Vargas met the players and immediately set the record straight: he was in control of Vallaki, and he would not let a few strangers from the outside overturn his rule. But with strategic work from the party and a targeted assassination of Izek, Vargas' seat of power was crumbling. As a last ditch effort, he took the Martikovs captive and threatened to kill them if the party did not leave town immediately. A fullproof plan - but he failed to account for the party's daring tactics and his own poor public image. Members of Fiona Wachter's cult swayed the minds of the people to revolt against him, and on that day Vargas lost everything: including his life.
