The Abbot

Not a great deal is known about the nameless master of the Abbey of St. Markovia in Krezk, who simply goes by "The Abbot." According to word from Krezkites, The Abbot rarely leaves the abbey and the locals suspect that he is much more than he seems to be, and for all they know could be the Devil Strahd himself in disguise. The Abbot's mysterious nature was further elevated when he brought Ilya, son of Baron Dmitri and Baroness Anna, back from the dead.
The Abbot can often be found with Vasilka, a flesh golem carefully crafted by The Abbot to serve as a bride for Strahd von Zarovich. He claims that Strahd must be reunited with the love that he once lost in order to set Barovia free of its curse, and Vasilka would play that role. When the party tried to sway him otherwise, he quickly became irritated, insisting that it was the only way to free Barovia and its inhabitants and that the party simply did not understand the vampire.
He speaks in a strange manner - he includes pauses in his sentences where they typically shouldn't be and omits them where they normally would be. Furthermore, he often runs out of breath when speaking, as though he isn't used to speaking with lungs and vocal cords. He has on more than one occasion spoken telepathically with the party.
