BZD "Leggy" Starfighter
The standard fighter of the Alliance of Heroes, the BZD fighter is highly maneuverable, highly adaptive, and a rather effective dogfighter
At it's core, the BZD is an egg shaped vehicle that utilizes a large energy thruster and smaller gravatic nodes to perform aerial dogfighting tricks in zero gravity. It's maneuverability comes at the expense of raw acceleration: Though it has a "top" speed it can reach rather easily, it can't continuously increase it's speed beyond that. This core carries a pair of missile tubes, a pair of laser cannons, a built in shield generator, and a series of PD bubbles that stud the exterior
The strength of the BZD (And the thing that gives it the moniker "Leggy) are 4 extendable arms (or legs) that are attached to the core. Each one has an additional laser cannon, an extra thruster, and a specialized generator. These generators can be used to overcharge systems on the rest of the fighter, making it extremely adaptable. The interceptor configuration helps it overcome the speed cap, the defender configuration enhances the shields, and the attacker configuration boosts the laser weapons to give the fighter greater stopping power
The legs can be extended to turn the fighter into a walking mech. In these scenarios, the gravatic thrusters are doing most of the work keeping the fighter upright, so they're less walking and more falling with style. Experienced pilots can even use them bipedally, leaving the two front legs as "arms" for wrestling with other mechs
A BZD can be used either as a piloted fighter, or the onboard AI can take over. For a small handful of more experienced (or insane) pilots, they will get cybernetic enhancements that allow them to interface with the AI, providing them with greater tactical awareness, and providing the AI with their better decision making and instinct
The BZD is capable of flying in both space and atmosphere, thanks to it's shield. Though it's PD is rather effective against SAMs and other AA missiles, they are nearly useless against biologicals, meaning the Leggy has few offensive options against infantry. They carry the standard missile suite for use against tanks and other strike craft, and many an opposing pilot has found their ship melting underneath them
Overall, they’re agile, and are decently survivable as long as the shield holds, but have low stopping power when it comes to weaponry. While that can be fixed by using larger missiles to support the guns, the standard loadout is usually slated for long ranges and operations, which goes for a large ammo bay of smaller missiles. In short, it’s a rather good dogfighter and escort fighter, used to support heavier craft or deny an opponent the use of their own support
