Pariel System
A modest inhabited system, out of the way of Tiatholon's more cosmopolitan core. The modest population and idyllic floral landscapes of the main settled world makes the syste a popular retreat and retirement destination.
Pariel IV (sometimes Pariel Planetside) is known as the Crown of Flowers. An idiosyncrasy in ancient human terraforming led to only flowering plants being introduced to the surface to form the basis of the flora. Evolution and ecological specialisation took its toll over the intervening centuries, and by the time Pariel was resettled as part of the Terran Empire the world was entirely flower-covered.
Colonists were immediately enthralled by the fields and meadows of wild clovers and hardy tulip-like ground cover, the tall, slim trees of what was once lavender and hydrangea, dense tropical thickets of flowering ferns and more. Even the coral beds that formed along oceanic ridges are formed from brightly coloured soft corals that turn to face the current.
Although long colonised, and now considered to be a settled world with modern orbital infrastructure and clusters of small and self-sufficient cities, Pariel's surface remains a wilderness of bright, beautiful colours. Private resorts and camping facilities dot the landscape to serve the hordes of tourists, especially from nearby Tifatholon.
Across the wider Province, the local population are known for their highly tuned sense of smell as well as for an unreasonably easy-going and calm demeanour. The nature of Pariel's natives has led to countless wild theories across northern Tiatholon - it's often whispered that the combination of floral scents has a psychoactive effect, or that something is subtly controlling the local population to bend them to the will of the flowers...
Unusually for a Terran system, the Cexpiz Bee population are well treated and are almost equal members of the community, unlike the servile underclass of their sisters. Bees tend to flourish out of sight of the offworlders as rangers and search & rescue personnel. Perhaps alone in the Empire, Pariel's humans have developed the means to translate and speak an electronically pitch-shifted Bee Consensus - for this, many of the province's Bees are suspicious or hostile towards the xenophilia of their cousins on Pariel.
While generally out of the way of large-volume stellar traffic, Pariel is close to the Sampson-Daryll commercial lane and always within easy reach of the rest of civilisation.
