The Apocalypse

The world Apocalypse is derived from the Greek word apokalypsis, meaning 'unveiling' or 'revelation'. The Book of Revelations from the Christian Bible appropriately describes the apocalypse or the end of the mortal world and the maturation of the supernatural into the one true plane of existence. It is said to be a prophecy. This is true. However, it is a prophecy seen only through the Judeo-Christian lens. The truth is much more horrible.   When the angels of heaven revolted, led by Lucifer, there was the Great Battle.   Many of the below signs are all true - several religions seem to have gotten it somewhat right. What they got wrong, though, was the time scale. After all, it took a "day" to separate the heaves and the earth, and another "day" to invent humans. It stands to reasons that these days are longer than 24 hours.   So yeah, bad news folks. The Apocalypse? It's already here...

Sacred texts describing the Apocalypse

Fifteen Signs before Doomsday (Christian tradition)   The Fifteen Signs before Doomsday (in Latin Quindecim Signa ante Judicium) is a list (popular in the Middle Ages ) of the events that are supposed to occur in the fortnight before the end of the world.   The earth's waters rise above the mountains The waters sink so low they cannot be seen anymore The waters return to their original position All sea animals gather on the surface and bellow unintelligibly The waters burn from east to west Plants and trees fill with dew and blood Earth is divided into two parts All buildings are destroyed The stones fight each other Great earthquakes occur All mountains and valleys are levelled to a plain Men come out from their hiding places but can no longer understand each other The stars and constellations fall out of the sky (in the Comestor variant only stars fall) The bones of the dead come out of their graves All men die, the earth burns with water Judgment Day From Revelations: “a woman sitting on a scarlet beast…with seven heads and ten horns.”   Muslim Tradition   The arrival of Judgement Day is preceded by apocalyptic signs, as described in various hadith collections:   Senseless immorality prevails: The prevalence of tyrants The decline of morality

Many lay-clerical groups (of lay-men and clergy) such as the White Lotus Society and Amida Buddhist clergy appeared and took to propagating eschatological scriptures.   There are two major points of Buddhist eschatology: the appearance of Maitreya and the Sermon of the Seven Suns.   Maitreya is the final buddha, a kind of messianic figure. His arrival of Maitreya is prophesied to occur during an era when the teachings of Gautama Buddha (have been forgotten by most of the terrestrial world.   Sermon of the Seven Suns: the Buddha describes the ultimate fate of the world in an apocalypse characterized by the appearance of seven suns in the sky, one by one, each causing progressive ruin until the Earth is destroyed.     Ancient Egyptian Not many apocalypse myths survive, but it was believed that when the world did end, the god Nun—the primordial waters—would reclaim the earth.     The Signs of the apocalypse have been immortalised in "Then all the Waters Rise Up", a Children's Song .
