The Elven Council

The Elven Council is the main political force of the Fae. Made up of representatives from the four main Elven races, they meet frequently in [SOMEWHERE] to discuss current events and vote on major decisions that affect all faekind. At the first seat of the Council is the High Councillor (One of the Ambassadors), who oversees all decisions and maintains order. They are the elective with the highest power and have the final say in all decisions, especially those that come to an impasse. At the High Councillor's side are the Scribe, who is in charge of making notes and logging all discussions, and the Mediator, who is a neutral party who steps in when things are too heated. Directly below are the Ambassadors of the remaining three races, who are elected by and speak on behalf of their People.   The final branch of the Council is The Faekind Peoples' Council. They consist of Specific Settlement Ambassadors, elected representatives and important figures. How many of each race there are depends on their power and influence within the Council -- the Qealin, for example, have the highest number of representatives within the People's Council. This branch of the Council are not always present for meetings, but are frequently consulted by their Ambassadors, and will always be present for major votes.

Public Agenda

Pre-Uprising, the Council focused primarily on the laws and regulations in place to keep faekind a secret from humans, dealing with incidents as they arose and overseeing trade and the needs of individual settlements without alerting humans to its happenings. Since the Uprising the focus has been widely on managing the fallout of the Fae's newfound publicity, aiming to settle conflicts and create deals with human authorities in a way that benefits both human and faekind.

History

The Council was founded following the public rise of the "Silver Elves" -- an organisation of Changelings newly growing aware of their nature as elfkin. Though their public existence did little to endanger faekind's secretive standing (with a lot of their information gleaned from instinct and speculation), it became clear that the self-governed nature of the fae was not going to work forever.   Thus, elected representatives were chosen to head an Elven Council, founded by Quealin and including at the time the Dhamin and Civin . Over time, representitives of the general fae population were elected to add their voice to the council (at the time including the Thin who were considered 'lesser', more sparce forms of elf) and with the new size of the Council a Scribe was elected to keep track of decisions and discussions.
Following repeated incidents in which the Council fell into disorder through argument and disagreements, a Mediator was also elected shortly thereafter.   It wasn't until a few years prior to the Uprising that the Thin were finally able to make their case to be represented in the upper Council alongside the three other Elven species, and have held the third Ambassadorship place in the upper Council sinc; though still feel their voices are not heard as freely as the other elven races.
