BrainDance, lovingly dubbed BD, allows users to experience full sensory input pre-recorded by another person, just like in full VR. Recording a BD reel requires a special implant. It is possible to chip an animal with BD recorder implant and experience their sensorium, if you're into that kind of thing. The primary use of BD is entertainment. The most popular genres are porn (to literally nobody's surprise), travel, exotic experiences, and dramas. The same technology can be applied for surveillance and control - so called braintapping, but lets not talk about that.
Some recording implants allow you to record wider and deeper sensorium than you experience in the moment - subliminal sounds, heat mapping, minor visual details - all of that can be later analyzed in BD editor software suite.
BD provides much more realism than VR. VR has to be created digitally from scratch, while BD is recorded directly in human sensorium "language". Of course, the recordings are edited for maximum user pleasure - nobody wants to think about sunburn and mosquitos while enjoying a juicy on white sands of a tropical paradise.
Most commercial BDs are run in surface mode (you will notice the smoke coming out of your eye sockets), but full immersion is also possible - user has no access to their own sensorium while running a BD. Price is about $10 per hour of mass market BD record.

Fun fact: the word BrainDance actually comes from prison. Back in the 60s, the inmates were sometimes forced to spend 2-3 years in cryo capsules, wired into the loop VR programs. This joyful experience was called "braindancing". Fast forward 20 years to today and appreciate the irony.
