Gilberti family

This criminal structure originates from an Italian mafia family that chose to focus on Africa, when it became apparent how much money was to be made in the triangle trade between the United States, West Africa, and West Indies. They got into an underground slave trade early, and in some ways helped to establish it - an industry they support to this day.
Gilberti are organized as something between a highly ruthless mafia dynasty and a highly ruthless corporation. Decisions are made by councils, where age, rank, and competence all play a role. Intra-family politics, intrigue, and back-stabbing are a well-established and well-loved way of doing business.
Gilberti may be conservative and sometimes miss out on opportunities presented by cutting-edge tech, but to counter that they have an advantage that still keeps them in action - they are and have always been awesomely rich. A constant in the Seven Cities, Gilberti hold no official turf, but have interests and operate in many locations. This keeps them away from the bloody inter-gang warfare, and helps maintaining diplomatic ties with the other players.
In addition to the traditional slavery, substances logistics, and high-level corruption schemes, Gilberti shift their attention towards lucrative conflicts. Their mercenaries are very well equipped and can be hired to create tactical opportunities (terror) and suppress civilian unrest (genocidal incursions).
Due to their heritage and structure, it makes sense that Gilberti would work with corporations, but any such involvement would be difficult to prove.
