Space Stations

There are different types of space stations, ranging from workshacks to battle stations.
TYPES
  • O'Neil Cylinder - these are large structures to support humans living in spaces with it's own air, food, and water supply. They are the basis for spaces colonies surround earth at different Lagrange points. They are composed of two or more large cylinder, counter rotating to each other for stability. They are compsed of huge windows/shields to allow sunlight in on the other panels. These structure are massive, with the diameter and length measured in kilometers.

  • Workshacks/Auto-factories - These stations are used for manufacturing in space, whether for zero-g constructions or other low gravity requirements. They are controlled by various corporations that have expanded their operations in space. The crew/passenger compliment is between half dozen and a dozen individuals for workshacks and a handful for auto-factories as most of those are unmanned. The habitats have little offensive capability and are lightly armor. There are some auto-factories rumored to have stronger offensive/defensive capability.

  • Transfer Station - Transfer stations are use by the traffic in space to move cargo/passengers from LEO to GEO/L-Zones and beyond. These stations see a steady traffic of spaceplanes and OTVs coming and going. They are often independent to any allegiance to a corporation, but the majority of them are controlled by ESA. Interpol will have agents on all stations as the ESA has major influence to make sure of it. Transfer stations will have about a dozen crew, with passengers waiting for another flight out or for their spacecraft needing repairs. The facility has capability of repairing and performing maintenance tasks on various spacecraft. They will have have extra supplies on hand for travelers as well if a vessel needs to re-equip. Some transfer stations do have offensive/defensive capability.

  • Research Station - These stations are used by various governmental agencies to do further research into Space. These are usually control by a specific government and a few are shared amongst them. These vessels usually have no offensive/defensive capability unless they are some secretive research that others should being poking their nose in.

  • Battle Station - These are unmanned weapon platforms from various governments and corporations. They have offensive/defensive capabilities. The suite of weapons on each of these varies from lasers, missiles, railguns, kinetic kill devices or particle beams. There are also equipped with an array of defensives as well, such as jammers, chaff/flares, anti-missile systems. They are also heavily armored compared to other spacecraft other than gunships.

  • Battle Satellite - military space stations from various governments and corporations. They have offensive/defensive capabilities similar to battle satellites. The crew ranges from full automated to a half dozen personnel. Some of these stations will have supplies and repair facilities for spacecraft looking for refit.
