The Mini-Cons were designed on a special contract by a race of larger-sized organic beings that had recently evolved from medium-size creatures and had outgrown their technology as far as maintenance was concerned. Thus they came to the mercantile Quintesson Forge Works for a special order of maintenance bots.
What sets these bots apart specifically is that they are fully functional Tailored Spark bots yet they are small-sized compared to the Large-sized normal bots. And despite other jobs, they may take upon themselves they all have the ability to combine with their larger Cybertronian lending some of their own self to enhance them.
