The Impact
The Death of a God and the End of an Era
In the year 0 BDB, during a solar eclipse when his power of her was at its strongest, Ashra the Sun succeeded in killing his sister, Boda the Moon. Her celestial body then plummeted through the The Astral Sea toward Cynos, where it broke up in the planet's atmosphere and bombarded the surface with enormous chunks of lunar rock.
Effect on Cynos
The collision of Boda's remains with Cynos's surface launched huge amounts of dust, ash and debris into the air, filling the atmosphere and blocking out Ashra's sunlight. The result was an impact winter that would last for centuries, referred to as The Great Winter.
As the mother of magic, Boda's body was the source of all arcane energy in the Universe. With it's destruction, all of that energy was released upon Cynos at once, overwhelming the planet with magic and causing what is known as the Arcane Flood. However, despite the strength of magic being at an all-time high, Boda's death meant that no more arcane energy could be produced, and that when the supply on Cynos eventually ran out, arcane magic would cease to exist.
Effect on the Universe
Boda represented half of every dichotomy and was the only balancing force to weigh against Ashra. With her death, the Universe began to change and deteriorate in ways never-before seen. Arborea and The Abyss, while still intact, were suddenly left without a patron. The stitching of both realms began to unweave, slowly spilling glades of Arborea and layers of the Abyss out into the Astral Sea. While the souls of chaotic-good and chaotic-evil mortals were still delivered properly to their respective afterlives, there was no one left to perform Divine Judgment upon chaotic-neutral souls. As a result, these poor beings were left to float endlessly through the Astral Sea, awaiting a trial that could never come.
