The Gatekeepers

Twin Guardians

Most inhabitants of Cyorion believe that when a person dies, their soul enters Nometathra, a spiritual holding world of sorts. Depending on the religion of who you talk to, Nometathra can be a paradise, pit of torture, or a mirrored world to Cyorion. But it is generally agreed that two guardians exist there.   Iathira
Ee-uh-theer-uh
The Gatekeeper of Cyorion, Iathira observes and contains souls that leave Cyorion en route to Nometathra. Iathira maintains the gateway into Nometathra and ensures that no souls are permitted to return without good reason.   Some believe that Iathira is responsible for denying the entry to Nometathra for particularly corrupted souls, forever damning them to an existence drifting in the Void or returning to Cyorion for unfinished business in the form of fiends, ghost, or other forms of poltergeists.   Iathira is depicted as a slender, massive humanoid form of glowing, subtle misty blue energy. Iathira wields a staff with a head of a crescent moon tipped at the top with a sun.     Phaopyh
Fay-oh-pea
The Gatekeeper of Rebirth, Phaopyh, guards the gates out of Nometathra to the realm of life, creation, and rebirth. Different religious organizations believe there are many methods for proving your worth or what is required to be reborn. While some think Phaopyh observes your actions in Cyorion and Nometathra as combined, others believe you should show remorse, confess crimes or sins, and be redeemed in Nometathra before being allowed to pass through the gates.   Phaopyh is depicted as a stout humanoid made of glowing red energy. Phaopyh is depicted wielding a scepter, usually of wood, and two spinning orbs, one red and one blue resembling the moons of Cyorion.
The Gatekeepers are considered a part of the pantheon of Cyorion. Most religions refer to them in some form, a set of twin divine beings responsible for the ferrying of souls between Cyorion and what is commonly known as The Great Rebirth, a cycle returning souls to creation to be born anew.
