The Veil

Day and Night

Day and Night operate differently on Cyorion. A natural phenomenon called "The Veil" occurs on a 12 hour cycle. The planet does not rotate, but instead faces the sun. A slight wobble to the pole allows the planet to experience seasons, but night occurs when an object blocks out the sun in 12 hour intervals. This veil crosses over the planet slowly, allowing for an evening and a morning, however when the veil is fully in effect there is no sun to be seen in the sky.

Player Knowledge

While denizens of Cyorion are not aware of the reason for this, some players may be interested to know the reason behind "The Veil". A half-spherical object akin to half of a Dyson Sphere sits in orbit around the sun of Cyorion. It rotates and blocks the light from the sun every 12 hours. This object is the lowest levels of The Pit of Arshi, also known as The Plane of Death, or Plane of Negative Energy for people more familiar with Forgotten Realms.
