Fynderth

A city built over a particularly narrow part of the Fallrose Beck, Fynderth is close enough to Folkmar to be considered 'northern'. The city is known for being a great bastion of trade, formerly almost monopolizing trade with the Kingdom of Korvald. An impressive collection of mercantile guilds run the day-to-day life of its citizens, while a high Lord runs the more large-scale tasks. Before Dawn Legion rule, this Lord was democratically chosen by a voting system that functioned by the golden coin. Now, an Etherien noble holds the position of Lord, initially placed there as a temporary ruler until the situation in the north calmed down, but whoh has never left since.   In the far north of the city, an oppressive castle looms over the city. The castle is the home of the Lord, as well as the Realmguard and most of the Legion's troops. The Ward is also located here, a prison complex, and accessible from the city is the Golden Hall, a hall where the Dawn Legion or rich individuals or organizations hire mercenaries and adventurers for particular tasks. A remarkably small nobility is present in the castle, the structure mainly functioning as a military and policing station. Additionally, a large bank known as the Gilded Vaults functions as a way for merchants to safeguard most of their money through a neutral force of priest-bankers that serve Diratha.   Just next to the castle, near the northwestern walls, the nobles and richest merchants have their mansions. The hills there make for excellent viewing points over the city, and the area is mainly residential. There are generally many Vedette here. This district is known as the Highsteads.   The western portion of the city, near the river, is the district where the finer shops are located. Running along the river are a number of well-made buildings that have more expensive stores within them. This part of town is often called the Hatter's Square, named after the central square that was known for having five seperate hatters working there. This is also a well-guarded area, as many merchants hold much sway with the ruling class.   Running down the northern center of the city is a large street called Gate's Way, that runs all the way from the northern gate to the main southern one. Around here are a number of less clean shops, as well as three squares that are often used for performances and the like.   Gate's Way runs through the center of town, where a number of crafting and magic guilds have their headquarters. Several impressive buildings stand here, and the sound of work and trade is always going on here. Much important trading business is conducted here, although recently it has dropped considerably. This area is called the Silver Streets, and people who work there are generally well-respected.   The eastern side of town is primarily residential. A number of houses, not small but certainly not large, used to hold a large part of the population - recently, however, these houses have increased in price as the Etherien rule changed laws for the rich. Now many of these houses are either empty or being torn down, replaced by factories and crafthouses. This large area is generally known as Millstown.   Towards the south, the residents get poorer. On the western side of Gate's Way, crowded streets belong to the lower class, an area known as Gobbleton, known for the goblins that used to live there. After the Legion took over, almost all the goblins there were killed, and the streets only get fuller as the poor get exploited by the rich.   On the other side of Gate's Way, Gobbleton was mostly destroyed during the siege on Fynderth, and no one has bothered to fix the already flimsy buildings up. Now, many criminal activities take place there, and it is a generally unsafe area to find oneself - some, who call that place 'home', have named it True Gobbleton.

Government

Currently ruled by a single lord, lord Esrin, put into power by the Etheriennes for his noble blood. Before, the city was ruled by a democratically elected lord.

Guilds and Factions

Mercantile guilds mainly rule the streets of Fynderth, with the Lord mainly functioning as ruler of diplomatic and militarty tasks, or tasks that involve the entire city. Several criminal factions play a large role in smuggling illegal goods in and out of the city, holding much sway in general opinion.

History

Before the Dawn Legion took over, the Mitrinal family ran the city, but they were all killed when the city was violently overthrown, hoping in vain for reinforcements from the north. Many buildings, especially in the north of the city, were almost entirely destroyed by the Legion, that scaled the castle's walls. The buildings there are far more spaced and large now, built after the city was overtaken.
