Hourglass Maidens
Wrapped in white silk robes, carrying their golden staffs, and watching with cold blue eyes, the Hourglass Maidens are renown for their beauty and brutality alike.
They believe themselves tasked with carrying out the section of the Scrolls that discusses equilibrium and balance in Cyrrin. Watching from their white marble towers, a Maiden is dispatched for all manner of duties: she may be on her way to heal a plague, to settle a land dispute, or to end a reign. No one knows for sure until the Maiden arrives.
Mythology & Lore
The first Hourglass Maiden was a young woman who had been cast away from her village. The myth is never clear about the reason; each region suits the story to their own needs and the Hourglass Maidens themselves will not confirm or deny any one telling as true, though all are certain they must know.
The myth goes that the woman, abandoned by her family, prayed to the Goddess Zarina to take her pain away. Zarina felt for the woman and appeared before her in spirals of golden light. She took the woman's face in between her two golden hands and kissed her forehead, blessing her with strength to continue alone.
