Ammut
Ammuts are monstrous creatures in the Chimaera family bearing the head of a crocodile atop a leopard's body, with the hind legs of a hippopotamus. They prefer hot climates and as such are most commonly found in Bharazad and humid jungles of Bedegar. While most chimaeras are the result of mad wizards or dark rituals, Ammuts are created directly from tales and legends; to speak of an Ammut is to create one.
Behaviour & Ecology
Ammuts typically travel alone or, rarely, in small packs if food is plentiful. In the day, an ammut feeds on sunbaked corpses left unburied under desert suns and hunts only those unfortunate enough to stray nearby. Ammuts tend to be nomadic, wandering scavengers however ammut dens are not unheard of in places where death is common enough to sustain them. When its hunger grows, an ammut's strength and agility makes it a frightening predator and unburied corpses can draw ammuts treacherously near to civilization. Perhaps owing to the stubborn beasts from which they are derived, an ammut rarely backs down.Hunter & Gatherer Notes
Most ammuts possess relatively few unusual or magical abilities save for a particular resistance to divine magic. For better or worse, this resistance grows as it's tested--it is an unfortunate holyman indeed that strikes an Ammut with holy fire. As tales of an Ammut grow ever grander, the Ammut's strength increases. Particularly old or legendary Ammuts develop unusual abilities and the ability to perform some holy miracles. The hunting of ammuts is widely discouraged by most holy orders, so the usefulness of its organs, hide and bones remains largely unknown.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
