Cockatrice

The cockatrice is a small avian monstrosity, typically about the size of a large turkey (11kg) but capable of growing considerably larger (the largest cockatrice on record was nearly 300kg). Like all members of the Chimaera family, the cockatrice is a monstrous hybrid of multiple creatures--in the case of a cockatrice, a bat, lizard and chicken.

Adventurer's Notes

Cockatrices are vicious creatures, and unfortunately hunt in packs. They are fiercely territorial and capable flyers, despite appearances. The greatest concern when fighting a cockatrice is its petrifying bite. Fortunately the creature's petrification is temporary, unfortunately most recover from this petrification within the cockatrices own lair. Tough armor, a hardy constitution, or gratuitous good fortune are suggested.
A cockatrice's feathers are common among trophy hunters, and their saliva is exceptionally valuable for its petrification qualities.
