Historical Basis

The Assassination and the War

Under the cloak of night, as the kingdoms celebrated the impending union, the Veritas assassins struck, their targets the unsuspecting King Orleon and Princess Sera. The attack was swift and brutal, leaving the king and princess lifeless, their bodies discovered by horrified attendants. The kingdom was plunged into mourning, the joyous celebration turned into a scene of despair and confusion.
News of the tragic assassination reached Veridia, sending shockwaves through the kingdom. The Veridian court, consumed by grief, seeking vengeance, and knowing the truth immediately pointed the finger at Aethel, they accused Aethel of orchestrating the assassination, believing that the kingdom sought to disrupt the union and seize power for itself; even more, they blamed Concordia itself for not providing the necessary security measures for the princess and demanded retribution.
Aethel, vehemently denying the accusations, felt betrayed and enraged. The delicate balance of power between the three kingdoms was shattered, replaced by a tense standoff fueled by mistrust and hostility. The war started and lasted 3 long years until the conspiracy was revealed.

The Truth:

The Confessional Noble: A noble from Veridia, deeply troubled by his involvement in the conspiracy and the devastating consequences of the war, decides to confess his role to the Veridian court. His confession, filled with remorse and details of the plot, exposes the Veritas Aeterna's involvement and their motives.
The Intercepted Message: A skilled Athaelean spy intercepts a secret message between the Veritas Aeterna and their network of assassins, revealing their participation in the assassination. This intercepted message was lost for years without anyone who believed this as authentic, who could believe that the names of Veridian murdered their Princess, until the confession of the noble of Veridian confirmed its veracity. Minos Involvement: The nobleman never spoke about the minotaurs involved, although many claim that it was out of fear, however, some material implies that they were involved in the murder from the beginning and even if there was solid evidence, no one was willing to confront them.
The Motive:
The motive of the Minos is clear: they fear that humans will unite and yet in the long run their plan did not go as expected, as now humans have the largest kingdom on the continent
In the case of the Veritas nobles, holding certain ideological beliefs and values, found common ground with the minotaurs. They shared a belief in the superiority of their respective races, their status and position, and a disdain for the perceived weakness and naivety of humans, especially those in Concordia. This ideological alignment further solidified their alliance and their shared goals.
