Triton

The Triton race has reduced significantly in the years following the Great Cataclysm. While not many will speak of it, the few that will have stated that over time they simply vanished and whole undersea colonies turned into ghost towns. All of the race that still seem to be around have migrated swiftly to more shallow waters or lagoons with canyons or cave systems found below. None seem to be willing to travel to the Depths of the ocean, even when threatened.   Changes to racial feats:   Remove Guardians of the Depths: Adapted to even the most extreme of ocean depths, you have resistance to cold damage, and you ignore any of the drawbacks caused by a deep, underwater environment.   Add Thick Hide: Adapted to lagoons plentiful in corals and creatures with poisonous natures, you have resistance to poison damage, and you have advantage on saves to any of the drawbacks caused by a poisonous environment. You can also, not be affected by the poisoned condition.   Add Fear of the Abyss: Whenever you are presented with entering the depths of the ocean (600ft deep), you treat it as though you are affected by the frightened condition, with the exception that you can voluntarily go closer to it. While you are near or within the depths of the ocean (Within reason), you make all attack rolls and skill checks at disadvantage. It is possible to temporarily overcome this fear while using proper gear, conditions that allow you to overcome it, or similar things, at DM discretion.   Add Quirk: Roll a 1d4 or select one of the following (If none of these suit your character, work with your DM for alternate ideas):   1. Since you were young, your parents have told the tale of the 'Dark Emissary' of the depths that comes to take bad little tritons to eat them in its lair. To this day, you still check all the dark places nearby before putting out all the lights before bed.   2. When you were young, you wandered out near the depths. You begin to hear dark whispers calling you deeper, that shook you to the core, and since that day haven't approached the dark waters again.   3. Your childhood friend disappeared with several others one night. Rumors say it was into the depths. Sometimes when you sleep, you see their face staring at you from the shadows, but it is warped, twisted, and calling for your help. You wake in sweats and trembling.   4. When you were still young, your home near the edge of the colony was suffered an intrusion. From a dark hiding place, you witnessed one of your family members murdered and another drug off screaming to the depths. The horrid, twisted face of the attacker haunts you.
